Hello i ve lived in my home for about 4 5 years and have always wondered if the random cycling of my well pump could be do to me not having a check valve between the pump tank and the well pump.

It could be a broken water line from the well to the house usually you ll have a wet area between the well head and the house a bad check valve just above the submersible pump at the bottom of the well a bad connector leaving the well casing or even a broken water line inside the well casing.
When selecting the replacement pump don t just assume that the last guy chose the perfect pump for the job.
Replacing a well pump and pressure tank together costs 800 to 2 300 minor well pump repairs cost 150 to 600.
Looking at the close up picture of the assembly there s a 1 1 4 stainless nipple threaded into the top of the well pump a 1 1 4 check valve brass and a stainless steel reducer aka spur that goes into the hose line.
A foot valve is located at the bottom of a well and acts like a one way check valve allowing water to go up the pipe toward the house but not drain backward into the well.
